Letter: An American hero on trial

To the Editor:

On June 3, the military trial of Pfc. Bradley Manning began at Ft. Meade in Maryland. Manning is accused of releasing thousands of classified military documents. If convicted, he may spend the rest of his life in jail. The documents he is accused of leaking reveal many disturbing details regarding the foreign policy and war conduct of the United States.

I believe we are putting an American hero on trial. The citizens of the United States deserve to know almost all of what its government is doing. We supposedly live in an open, democratic society. Read about the case of Bradley Manning. Read multiple sources. Make up your own mind. Think for yourself. You, too, might conclude this young man is a hero and will be portrayed as such in our history books.
