Batavia Green Walk to offer education, awareness

BATAVIA – With more than 70 vendors, the 2013 Batavia Green Walk will be bigger than ever.

The walk will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Batavia Riverwalk and Peg Bond Center, dovetailing with an extended Farmers Market on North River Street from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We have so many well-informed people and groups in our community, and this is a great way to provide education and awareness,” Batavia MainStreet Executive Director Joi Cuartero said.

The event is being put on in partnership with Batavia MainStreet, the city of Batavia, the Batavia Environmental Commission and the Batavia Park District.

Along with eco-friendly booths exhibiting everything from rain barrels and solar fans to electric cars and food for purchase, the Peg Bond Center will feature a full schedule of free classes and live music.

In addition, speakers in the Batavia Government Center’s City Council Chambers at 100 N. Island Ave., Batavia, will discuss subjects from birds and allergy-free cooking to recreation in Kane County and water quality.

“We are very enthusiastic about adding speakers and workshops to this year’s Green Walk,” said Carolyn Burnham, committee chair for the Green Walk.
