Batavia garden walk set for Saturday

Published: Friday, June 21, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

BATAVIA – Seven gardens will be on display Saturday as part of the Batavia Plain Dirt Gardeners 2013 garden walk, “Gardens of De-Light and Shade.”

“They are all different,” said Batavia Plain Dirt Gardeners member Melissa Hyams, chairman of the garden walk committee. “Many of them have water going through them.”

The majority of them are shade gardens, Hyams said, which inspired the name behind this year’s walk.

There is no start or finish to the walk, which is self-guided.

“You can start with any of the seven,” she said.

Advance tickets can be purchased for $13 at the Batavia Park District offices, 327 W. Wilson St.

On the day of the walk, tickets will be available for $15 at The Holmstad retirement community, 700 W. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia.

A complimentary tea will be presented by The Holmstad staff in the Ahlstrand Cultural Center. The walk will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
