Foster: 'I am pleased that Fermilab has chosen Dr. Nigel Lockyer'

U.S. Rep. Bill Foster, D-Naperville, released the following statement congratulating Nigel Lockyer for his appointment as the new director of Fermilab:

“I am pleased that Fermilab has chosen Dr. Nigel Lockyer to lead this great institution. As someone who collaborated with Nigel for years and has spent many long hours in the control room of Fermilab’s Collider Detector Facility with Nigel, I know that Dr. Lockyer brings decades of expertise in high-energy physics and will undoubtedly provide great leadership to Fermilab and the high-energy physics community. I join Department of Energy Secretary Ernie Moniz in offering Dr. Lockyer my sincere congratulations and support.”

Before coming to Congress, Foster worked as a high-energy physicist and particle accelerator designer at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. Bill Foster and Nigel Lockyer were both members of the team that discovered the top quark, the heaviest known form of matter. Bill also led the teams that designed and built the magnets for the Fermilab Antiproton Recycler Ring, the latest of Fermilab's giant particle accelerators.
