• A man, 50, of the 100 block of Calkins Drive, Sugar Grove, told police June 20 he believed he may have been defrauded by a blacktop contractor. He said he hired the company to sealcoat his driveway for $350. He said the contractor ultimately billed him $1,600, claiming workers used more material than they had first estimated they would need. The man paid them in cash and by check. Police advised the man to put a hold on the check.

• A man, who owns a tobacco shop in the 0-100 block of Sugar Lane, Sugar Grove, told police June 24 he intended to file charges against a former employee who had confessed to stealing about $8,000 in cash and products from the store over a 2-month period. The man said the female employee, of Plano, had agreed in writing under a private arrangement to pay back the amount stolen in monthly installments to avoid prosecution. She since had stopped paying, the man said.

• A woman, 55, of the 100 block of East Park Avenue, Sugar Grove, told police June 28 someone had egged two vehicles parked in her driveway and smashed the front door bell on her home with a rock.

• A woman, representing the homeowners association in the neighborhood around Bliss Park, at Spruce Street and Pine Street, told police June 28 that someone had spray painted lewd graffiti on playground equipment at the park.
