Sew Generously to support women’s shelter with 24-hour Sew-A-Thon

Sew Generously, a Bernina dealer and fabric store in St. Charles, is sponsoring a 24-hour Sew-A-Thon beginning Aug. 9 on behalf of the Mutual Ground Women and Children’s Domestic Violence Shelter in Aurora.

ST. CHARLES – Sew Generously, a Bernina dealer and fabric store in St. Charles, is sponsoring a 24-hour Sew-A-Thon to support a local women’s shelter. The event will take place at 5 p.m. Aug. 9 and continues until 5 p.m. Aug. 10  at Sew Generously, 3341 W. Main St., St. Charles. 

The Sew-A-Thon will support the Mutual Ground Women and Children’s Domestic Violence Shelter in Aurora.

“We depend on the local community to survive,” said owner Karin Furio in a news release, “and this is one way we can give back – using our machines, fabric, talent and skills.”

Attendees will make quilts for Mutual Ground, and are invited to stay the entire length of time.

Participants who sew from 1 to 5 a.m. Saturday morning will be eligible to win a grand prize of a new Bernina 215 sewing machine. Those who sew from 6 to 10 a.m. Aug. 10 will be eligible to win an Illinois to Wisconsin quilt shop bus trip for two people. In order to win either the machine or the bus trip, the winner must be present and still sewing during their time slot.

Other activities during the show will include: • Door prizes every two hours • Snacks and caffeinated drinks • Pizza from 6 p.m. to midnight Aug. 9 • Breakfast from Panera Bread from 6 to 10 a.m. Aug. 10 • Lunch on the grill from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 10 • A dessert buffet from 3 to 5 p.m. Aug. 10
