ELGIN – Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash that killed a St. Charles man this morning in Elgin.
Elgin police and fire departments responded to the intersection of Randall Road and Highland Avenue shortly before 7 a.m. for a crash involving a Yamaha motorcycle and a passenger vehicle, according to a news release from the Elgin Police Department.
The motorcycle, driven by a 26-year-old St. Charles man, was heading north on Randall Road when it entered the intersection at Highland Avenue, colliding with a car that had been turning onto eastbound Highland Avenue from southbound Randall Road, states the release.
Witnesses told police that the motorcycle had been shoulder riding immediately before the crash and entered the intersection from a non-lane portion of the road before impact, according to the release.
The man riding the motorcycle was transported from the scene by paramedics and later was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The man's name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
The driver of the car, a 44-year-old Woodstock man, was uninjured and released from the scene.
One northbound lane of Randall Road and all of eastbound Highland Avenue were closed off for about 3 1/2 hours as police investigated the crash.
