Face Time with Michael Quintao

St. Charles resident Michael Quintao, 53, was at the Great Western Trail Horlock Hill Prairie in St. Charles when he answered 10 questions for the Kane County Chronicle’s Brenda Schory.  

Where did you grow up? Johannesburg area of South Africa. I came here in 1999.

Who would play you in the movie of your life? Al Pacino

First job? Working in a shoe shop selling shoes

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to become a pilot. As life went on, I became an engineer.

A movie or book you’d recommend? “Blood Diamond” and “Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen” by Christopher McDougall.

Do you speak another language? I speak Afrikaans.

Favorite local restaurant? Alley 64 in St. Charles

What is an interesting factoid about yourself? South Africa was isolated from rugby for many, many years and could never play in the World Cup, but was always considered one of the best in the world. When the country changed and we had the World Cup rugby in South Africa, the South Africa rugby team won the World Cup for the first time. And I was at that game on that day in 1995.
