ST. CHARLES – Lori Linkimer grew up with parents who both took time to volunteer and, at 58, she does as well.

"I'm somebody who believes in civic responsibility and duty," said Linkimer, the managing broker of a real estate company in St. Charles. "If you can help, you help."

And help she has.

Throughout the years, the former PTO mom and retired teacher has served on the St. Charles school board, coached softball and soccer, and volunteered at her church, Bethlehem Lutheran in St. Charles, she said. About six years ago she joined the St. Charles Noon Kiwanis Club, an organization she said was very dear to her father's heart.

"[Kiwanis] was exactly where I wanted to put my time and effort," Linkimer said.

Despite her volunteering efforts so far, she said, there are still many she hasn't had the opportunity to do. Her volunteering bucket list includes being involved with CASA — Court Appointed Special Advocates — and building with Habitat for Humanity, she said.

"I'll get there," she said.

Linkimer and her husband, Mike, have three adopted children and three young grandchildren, she said, adding the fourth grandchild is due in September.

"My girls had their babies close together, and I love it," she said. "It's not quiet when we're all together."
