Letter: The need for term limits

To the Editor:

The following is an open letter to the U.S. Congress and state of Illinois Senate and House.

Everyone must realize that to keep elected representatives from leading the country and state downhill to financial ruin, we and they have to face up to the urgent need for term limits. Congress and state officials are being led by people who won't concede that they are taking the country and state to eventual failure.

Further, both elected bodies seem to be forced to work with multiple special interest groups who couldn't care less that their methods of buying and influencing votes are rapidly breaking the government.

I recently wrote a letter about term limits for elected officials on the state and federal levels, and this letter is intended to show the close relationship between term limits and government spending.

It's really quite simple – remove the possibility of re-election and elected officials will cease to respond to the pressures and influence of special interest groups, which will result in less spending and less debt.

House members are to serve three terms, and Senate members are to serve two terms.

Let's make sure that's all they can serve and cannot stand for re-election under any circumstances.

We need to make this the law now!
