Waubonsee faculty to see 4 percent raise as part of new contract

SUGAR GROVE – Waubonsee Community College’s full-time faculty will receive a 4 percent raise this year as part of a three-year contract college trustees approved earlier this month.

However, starting Jan. 1, faculty members will have to pay 5 percent of their premium for health insurance. That is a new requirement for full-time faculty.

Instructors will receive a 4 percent raise this year and raises of 3.5 percent in 2014 and 2015.

Those instructors with no more than a bachelor’s degree in their first year of teaching at WCC will see their salaries increase to $42,589 this year, $43,639 in 2014 and $44,715 in 2015.

A WCC professor with a doctorate degree on the top of the pay scale will see a salary increase to $108,250 this year, $112,039 in 2014 and $115,961 in 2015.

Faculty members will have to pay 5 percent of the individual employee premium for group health insurance next year and 10 percent starting in January 2016. `

The contract, which will be in effect through 2016, covers full-time employees of the district who are regularly engaged in teaching or academic support services.

Supervisors, administrators and all support staff are excluded.

The contract specifies that the normal teaching load for a full-time faculty member is 15 semester hour equivalents per semester and a two-semester load of 30 semester hour equivalents.

It also includes a no-strike clause.
