Rush: Festival of the Vine to bring senses to life

August is a busy month for most. Last-minute vacations find a spot on the calendar.  School shopping, reluctantly, needs to be done. Inevitably, there always is that one thing you just can’t find anywhere.

And with the warmer and longer days coming to an end, you realize that project list made last May has only gotten longer. Pause for a breath.

Fortunately, as my mom used to say, “this too shall pass.”

However, something you don’t want to pass up is next month’s Festival of the Vine, which will take place Sept. 6-8.

Twenty-two Geneva restaurants will be creating a culinary display of specialties. I can’t think of a better way to let your taste buds travel around the world. France, Mexico, Italy – flavors of those countries and more will be represented at the 2013 Flavor Fare.

Just steps away from the Flavor Fare on North Fourth Street you can raise your glass and peruse and purchase a variety of reds and white wines.

Walk across the street and stroll to Third Street, where crafters are literally wrapped around the old courthouse Saturday and Sunday. Don’t miss the fall fresh flower market provided by the Pure Gardener.

There will be a food frenzy at the Harvest Stage. Daily demonstrations, all involving items to please your palette, will be on James Street. If the tantalizing smells aren’t enough to get you there, how about the samplings many will offer?

Adding to the atmosphere of the festival will be complimentary, horse-drawn, antique carriage and trolley rides. Carriage rides will be offered Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and the trolley will be available Saturday and Sunday to take you between festival events. Hop on board and discover what makes Geneva special.

When you are busy, it is hard to think about the next day, let alone the next month – though looking forward to a Geneva festival might make the next couple of weeks pass just a little easier.

Good food, good wine, good music, good people, good times, good gosh you should try it.
