Chapa LaVia news release: Chapa LaVia appointed to truancy in Chicago Public Schools Task Force

The following is a news release from Linda Chapa LaVia, D-Aurora:

"Continuing her efforts to provide the best possible education to Illinois students and increase attendance to improve academic success, state Representative Linda Chapa LaVia was recently appointed to the Truancy in Chicago Public Schools Task Force.

“We must find ways to keep our children in classrooms,” said Chapa LaVia. “I am pleased to be a part of this task force and will work to fight truancy in our schools. I look forward to working with parents, teachers, administrators and local residents to make our schools even better.”

House Joint Resolution 1 creates the Truancy in Chicago Public Schools Task Force to make recommendations related to the current Illinois State Board of Education and Chicago Public Schools policies regarding truancy. The task force has been asked to report its findings by December 31, 2013 and will be administered by the Illinois State Board of Education.

“It is an honor and privilege to be a part of this task force and I hope to provide insights on how we can reduce truancy within our schools,” said Chapa LaVia. “I strongly urge local residents to reach out to the task force and provide any ideas they may have on how to combat truancy.”

For  information,  contact Rep. Chapa LaVia’s full-time constituent service office at 630-264-6855 or visit her office located at 8 E. Galena Blvd., Suite 240 in Aurora."
