American Legion awards $25K in scholarships to area students

ST. CHARLES – St. Charles American Legion Post 342 selected five students to receive academic scholarships totaling $25,000.

The recipients are Bradley Bushing, Joan Educate, Abigail Gaffney, Kylie Hicks and Robert Paul.

Bushing, of Glenbard Township High School, will be attending California Polytechnic State University, majoring in computer engineering. His Grandfather, Dean Bushing, served in the Army Air Corps. during World War II.

Educate, of Geneva High School, will be pursuing a career in film and television production, screen writing and producing at New York University. Her grandfather, Joe Educate, served in the U.S. Air Force.

Gaffney, of St. Charles East High School, is seeking a career in nursing at Elgin Community College. Both of Abigail’s grandfathers were Post 342 commanders.

Hicks, of South Elgin High School, will be attending Benedictine College, majoring in psychology and communications. Her great-uncle, Col. Jake Wyatt served, in the U.S. Army  and is an active 342  member and officer.

Paul, of St. Charles North High School, intends to earn a degree in computer engineering at the university of Illinois – Champaign. His father served in the U.S. Army reserves.
