I ventured to Big Rock this week to photograph some Girl Scouts from the Elburn and Sugar Grove areas as they participated in a day camp at Camp Dean. When I arrived, the girls were working on crafts as some waited out a little bit of rain as they were scheduled to play in the swimming pool.
Like my own Girl Scout camp that I attended during my younger years, there were tie-dye projects going on and girls eating their lunches out of brown paper bags with their names splashed all over them. But in addition to that, the girls were working on handprint pieces of art as part of a new partnership, a Kindness Campaign.
On these drawings were hearts and peace signs and words exclaiming what it means to be kind. I thought it was so simple, and so brilliant.
Be kind. Make others happy. Trust. Forgive. That's what we should all strive for in life.
