Pittsburgh resident Suzanne Belles, 51, was on her way to the Geneva Arts Fair when she answered 12 questions for the Kane County Chronicle’s Brenda Schory.
Where did you grow up? In St. Charles. I graduated from St. Charles High School, Class of 1980.
Pets? A cat named Wanda
Who would play you in the movie of your life? Drew Barrymore
First job? Besides baby-sitting, I did one day at the Kane County Fair when I was 14, manning a pingpong ball in a bowl thing, which, at the end of the day, ended up paying less than 75 cents an hour.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I probably wanted to be a model. I became a Latin teacher.
A book you’d recommend? “Franny and Zooey” by J.D. Salinger
Do you speak another language? I read Latin. I don’t speak it.
Do you play an instrument? I can play “Amazing Grace” on the harmonica.
Favorite charity? Planned Parenthood of America
What game show would you be on? “Jeopardy!”
Favorite local restaurant? Fiora’s in Geneva
What is an interesting factoid about yourself? I am a member of the American Classical League, an organization of teachers of Latin, ancient Greek and classics that tries to foster the study of classical languages. I belong as a high school Latin teacher. There’s not a lot of us out there, but enough to keep the torches burning.
