Normally, on the first day of a high school football practice, I have to steel myself for the suffocating heat, grab my several bottles of water and savor every possible moment in my air conditioned car before trekking to the fields.
This past Wednesday, though, was a dream.
Temperatures barely reached 70 degrees as I pulled up to the St. Charles East practice fields about 8 a.m.
I know the players appreciated the cooler weather, even though I’m sure they still sweat up a storm as they ran several sprints and up-down exercises during the conditioning portion of their practice.
