ST. CHARLES – A North Aurora man accused of spitting in a bar manager’s face in St. Charles early Saturday was pulled over later that morning on suspicion of drunken driving – hours after a breath test indicated he was intoxicated, St. Charles police said.

About 1 a.m., a manager of Pub 222, 222 W. Main St., asked Michael Peter DeGuzman, 23, to leave the St. Charles business after she learned he was kicked out of another bar that night because he was causing problems, according to police reports.

DeGuzman reportedly began yelling. When the manager again told him to leave or she would call police, he threw his drink at her and spit in her face before leaving, police said.

Soon afterward, police charged DeGuzman, of the 700 block of Lloyd Lane, North Aurora, with misdemeanor battery and released him on a personal recognizance bond, police said.

Police reported DeGuzman wanted to drive home and challenged officers to give him a breath test, which showed he was intoxicated.

Unable to get a ride, DeGuzman was driven to a friend’s house by police, police said.

About 4 a.m., officers reportedly saw DeGuzman walking toward his car parked on North Third Street in St. Charles.

He got in and drove away, prompting officers to conduct a traffic stop, police said.

After pulling over to the curb, DeGuzman reportedly slid to the front passenger seat, lit a cigarette and told the officers he wasn’t driving.

He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, a misdemeanor, and taken to the Kane County Adult Justice Center to be held for bond call.

Online records Thursday indicated he was being held on $5,000 bond.
