ST. CHARLES – An intoxicated woman at a St. Charles resort was charged Sunday with endangering the life or health of her young son, St. Charles police said.

Police responded to Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main St., St. Charles, on reports of an intoxicated guest in the company of a small child, police said.

Officers were directed to the outdoor pool area, where they found Kelly A. Mrozek, 45, of the 11000 block of Karen Drive, Orland Park, sleeping on a couch with her 5-year-old son, police said.

She appeared intoxicated when police woke her up, but she reportedly denied consuming any alcohol. Police said she refused to take a breath test. Because of her extremely intoxicated state, police took protective custody of her son, police said.

While police conducted their follow-up investigation, Mrozek reportedly began yelling to the point of alarming and disturbing resort personnel. Mrozek was charged with disorderly conduct and endangering the life or health of a child.

Contact was made with the Department of Children and Family Services, police said, and the boy was released into the custody of his uncle.
