The St. Charles Rotary Club recently awarded $10,000 among six St. Charles area students pursuing their education. The students were selected from a pool of applicants who needed to demonstrate educational accomplishments, service to the community, and financial need. Auroran David Yahnke pedaled the Batavia Montessori School's entry in the Fox Valley United Way's 11th annual "What Floats Your Cardboard Boat" race on Mastodon Lake in Aurora's Phillips Park on Saturday, Aug. 17. The Batavia boat was among two in the race's mechanical dvision in which a driver pedaled a bicycle-type mechanism to turn a propeller.
