Warrant issued in Sugar Grove sex assault case

SUGAR GROVE – A warrant has been issued for a man who police say sexually assaulted a woman in Sugar Grove earlier this month.

The suspect is not yet in custody, said Detective Steven Kurzawa with the Sugar Grove Police Department. He said because a warrant has been issued, the name of the suspect is not being released.

He said the warrant is related to an alleged sexual assault that took place on Aug. 19 at a townhome in the 200 block of Brompton Lane, where several friends gathered and stayed overnight.

The victim was a 22-year-old woman, Kurzawa said, who was a guest at the party. He said several witnesses saw the assault, which he said happened around 6 a.m. The suspect then fled in a vehicle shortly after.

"The offender has been identified and it's not a stranger to the victim," he said. "He is at large and is awaiting to be picked up."

Kurzawa said the suspect doesn't have a home address and likely stays a few days at a time with friends.

He said once the suspect is located and charged, police will release his identity.
