GENEVA – Nobody was injured during a house fire that took place at 1:26 a.m. today in the 1400 block of Pinto Court in Geneva, according to a news release from the Geneva Fire Department.
The fire department responded to the Eagle Brook subdivision after a neighbor on Fargo Boulevard called 911. That person had smelled smoke and seen flames coming out of the home, the news release states.
First-arriving units found the first and second floors of the home burning and flames coming through the roof. The fire was brought under control about 20 minutes after the initiation of suppression efforts, the release states. While a damage estimate has not been set, the structure suffered significant fire and water damage. The cause of the fire has not been determined, and the investigation is continuing.
The homeowners, Stuart and Stephanie Girgins, were not home at the time of the incident, the release states.
Assistance was provided by fire units from Batavia, Elburn, St. Charles, West Chicago, Fermi Lab and North Aurora. The South Elgin and Winfield fire departments provided apparatus and manpower to staff both of Geneva’s fire stations during the incident, the release states.
Traffic control, site security and the preliminary investigation were provided by the Geneva Police Department and Geneva Emergency Management Agency, the release states.
