Prep roundup: Burlington Central boys soccer rolls in opener

OREGON – Paolo Sespene scored two goals and an assist Monday, sparking the Burlington Central boys soccer team to a 7-0 romp against Big Northern Conference crossover opponent Oregon in its season opener.

Sean Fitzgerald scored off a feed from Alan Camarena just two minutes into the match.

"We were able to get a lot of guys in the first game," Central coach Mike Gecan said. "Good to get that first win of the season out of the way."

Goalkeepers Brett Rau (three saves) and Nikola Filipac combined on the shutout.

BOYS GOLF

Wheaton Academy 158, Chicago Christian 161: At Silver Lake in Orland Park, Zack Spear shot a 2-over-par 38 to pace Wheaton Academy in its first dual meet. Kyle Bertsche (39), Grant Gosden (30) and Matt Hamm (41) also contributed for the Warriors.

GIRLS GOLF

Benet 188, Rosary 207: At River Bend Golf Club in Lisle, Victoria Phipps shot a 42 to earn medalist honors for Rosary. Morgan Martinez was next with a 46.

GIRLS TENNIS

Kaneland 6, West Chicago 1: At Maple Park, Madi Jurcenko and Jelly Emmanouil won, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 doubles for the Knights.

Wheaton Academy doubles tournament: Wheaton Academy’s Lexi Welton and Kylie Hultgren beat both of their doubles opponents (Wheaton North and Wheaton Warrenville South) while Maisie Howland and Taylor Scheffers also scored a pair of doubles wins for the Warriors.
