Prep roundup: Burlington Central girls volleyball cruises in opener

HAMPSHIRE – The Burlington Central girls volleyball team swept longtime former conference rival Hampshire, 25-11, 25-18, in its season opener Wednesday.

“We’re very pleased. It was a good evening,” Rockets coach Marv Leavitt said. “We had strong serving and a nice, aggressive attack.”

Lauren Wiltsie personified both strengths with 13 service points and five kills. Makenna Jensen led the offense with seven kills, while Allie O’Reilly (16 digs) and Aly DeTamble sparked Central’s back line.

BOYS GOLF

St. Charles North 161, Elgin 225: At Pottawatomie Golf Course in St. Charles, Santino Salamone (39) and Anthony Butir (40) paced a balanced attack for North in the UEC River dual.

Wheaton Academy 149, Montini 165: At Pheasant Run in St. Charles, Wheaton Academy’s Grant Gosden led the way with a 1-under par 34.

GIRLS GOLF

Providence 185, St. Francis 207: At Woodruff Golf Course in Joliet, Caroline Bland (45) and Caroline Pins (47) carded two pars apiece for the Spartans.

BOYS SOCCER

DeKalb Tournament: DeKalb 4, Burlington Central 1: Central (2-1) suffered its first loss of the season in its tournament opener.
