GENEVA – A St. Charles man was charged with felony aggravated driving under the influence after police stopped him after he swerved over the lane divisions, according to police reports.

Ramon Navarro-Contreras, 35, of the 900 block of Spring Avenue, St. Charles, also was charged Aug. 19 with DUI, improper lane use, driving without insurance, driving without a license and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

The charge of driving without a license elevated the DUI charge to felony aggravated DUI, according to court records.

Aggravated DUI is punishable by one to three years in prison and fines of up to $25,000.

Navarro-Contreras is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 5.

According to police reports, officers responded to a report of a red Mustang swerving as it traveled west on East State Street about 1:30 a.m.

Officers watched Navarro-Contreras as he turned north on East Side Drive and continued to swerve over the lane division.

When police activated their light and then the sirens, Navarro-Contreras did not pull over immediately but continued driving for three-fourths of a mile, according to reports.
