Published: Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 5:33 a.m. CDT

The Kane County Chronicle is accepting nominations for its Everyday Heroes honor.

Candidates for the recognition include everyday people who make life better for those in the local community.

They are volunteers for nonprofit organizations, coaches and Scout leaders. They are fundraisers, firefighters and teachers.

Nominations for Everyday Heroes are due Sept. 8. A nomination form can be found on page 32 of today’s newspaper.

Those selected as Everyday Heroes will have their stories told in a special section in the newspaper and online.

Those with questions can contact Chronicle promotions coordinator Lisa Glavan at or 630-845-5237.

The prep football season has kicked off, and the Kane County Chronicle is covering the action.

Our 2013 Prep Football Preview section came out Thursday, and the sports team will continue to cover games throughout the fall.

As part of our coverage, we plan to produce highlight videos with post-game interviews during the season.

Our first video was to be the Glenbard North at Batavia game, but the weather intervened. View future videos by visiting the “Videos” section of our website at

Finally, the Kane County Chronicle’s website garnered heavy traffic this week for a few star-studded reasons.

Features editor Kara Silva put together a list of photos from Jenny McCarthy’s “Dancing with the Stars” charity event, which took place Aug. 24 in St. Charles.

Among those pictured in the list are McCarthy, Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler and Blackhawks player Patrick Sharp.

We ran many of these photos in Thursday’s paper, but you can view more by visiting and clicking on “Photo Lists.”

In addition, the scoop that reporter Brenda Schory got on some other Hollywood stars being cited for public intoxication in Geneva after the charity event garnered much attention on our website – so much so that the story got picked up by the entertainment outlets TMZ and MailOnline, the website of the United Kingdom-based Daily Mail.
