Prep roundup: East girls volleyball upends Neuqua
NAPERVILLE – If these are growing pains, the St. Charles East girls volleyball team will take them.
East improved to 2-0 with Thursday’s 25-15, 25-20 sweep of Upstate Eight Conference crossover foe Neuqua Valley as a group filled with newcomers turned in another steady outing.
“They worked well together. They’re starting to become a more cohesive unit,” Saints coach Jennie Kull said. “It was nice to see that there wasn’t a drop-off when the kids played. Everybody did real well working together.”
Meagan Smith (six kills) and Megan Schildmeyer (five) sparked East’s attack, but the Saints showed especially well at the net defensively. After playing timid at times during Tuesday’s season opener against Wheaton North, the Saints were more assertive behind Mikaela Mosquera (five blocks) and Sydney Urban (three).
St. Charles North 2, Bartlett 0 (25-13, 25-18): At Bartlett, Sydney Wohlert and Taryn DalDegan both contributed 10 assists for 2-0 North in the UEC crossover. Alex Seavey sprawled for 12 digs.
