BATAVIA – The Wheaton Academy girls volleyball team knocked off Batavia, 25-20, 29-27 on Tuesday in the Warriors’ season debut.
Sydney Vischer had nine kills and six service points, Sam Krill had five kills and eight service points and Sarah McClain dished 20 assists for the Warriors in what was described as a great defensive match by both teams.
The Bulldogs (5-3) dropped their home opener despite 18 assists and 11 digs from Batavia’s Audrey Faulhaber and 10 kills from Heather Meyer.
“We had opportunities to put the game away in both games but we just did not have the consistent offense like [Wheaton Academy] had,” Bulldogs coach Lori Trippi-Payne wrote. “They served us tough, and that did not help as well.”
St. Charles North 2, Addison Trail 0 (25-15, 25-9): At St. Charles, Taylor Krage had seven kills and Claire Anderson added five kills as North improved to 8-0 on the season. Sydney Wohlert (eight assists) and Alex Seavey (five digs) were also among North’s leaders.
Geneva 2, West Aurora 1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-16): At Geneva, Kyley Thompson had nine kills and three blocks, Kelsey Wicinski notched 21 digs and Courtney Caruso added 10 assists as Geneva (3-0) rallied for the nonconference win.
Barrington Tournament: St. Charles North was blanked by Rockford Boylan, 2-0, to fall to 0-3 on the season. North will play its third pool play match of the tournament on Friday against Crystal Lake South.
Burlington Central 4, Marengo 1: At Burlington, Sean Fitzgerald and Matt O’Connor each had a goal and an assist to help Central (4-1, 1-0 BNC East) in its home opener.
Wheaton Academy 7, Montini 0: At Lombard, Ty Seager had two goals and Sam Hardy added two assists as Wheaton Academy cruised in its season opening match.
Neuqua Valley 171, Geneva 175: At Mill Creek in Geneva, Geneva fell despite rounds of 42 from Elise Anderson and 43 from Mary Clare Novak. Allie Henrie and Nicole Hassels each shot 45s for the Vikings.
Lemont 193, Rosary 202: At Fox Valley in North Aurora, Victoria Phipps (47) and Morgan Martinez (49) led Rosary, but the Royals dropped the dual meet.
Kaneland 5, DeKalb 0: At DeKalb, Sammie Schreferman and Stephanie Zwick took care of the singles end of the equation as the Knights swept the Northern Illinois Big 12 East match.
Batavia 7, East Aurora 0: At Aurora, Batavia won six of the seven matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores, and won the other by default. The Bulldogs’ Nora McClure won at No. 1 singles.
St. Charles East 6, Larkin 1: At Elgin, St. Charles East swept the four doubles matches, including a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles by twins Alexa and Carly Huskisson and a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 doubles for Katie Downing and Kelly Rinker.
Kaneland triangular: At Elburn Woods, Wheaton Academy won the boys varsity race while coming in second place in the girls varsity race in a meet that also included the host Knights and West Chicago.
Kaneland’s Brianna Bower won the 2.4 mile girls race in 15:14, but the Knights came in third as a team.
The Knights’ Nathaniel Kucera (17:15) finished second individually in the boys race on the 3-mile course as Kaneland (30) came close to the first-place Warriors (27).
