With apologies to rival Detroit, Chicago and its suburbs briefly wrestled away the titled of "Hockeytown" on Monday.
As Blackhawks legend Bobby Hull sang "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" during the seventh-inning stretch of the Cubs' Labor Day matinee at Wrigley Field, Wayne Gretzky, the NHL's all-time leading scorer, watched the Cougars from section 108 of Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
The father of Cougars outfielder Trevor Gretzky, Wayne Gretzky was in Geneva for the final three games of the Midwest League regular season alongside his wife, actress Janet Jones.
"We've had a ball. My wife and I really enjoy ourselves coming to Chicago," Wayne Gretzky, 52, said. "Wonderful city, great sports city. We've had a great three or four days here. Everything's been great, everything's been fine."
