Prep roundup: Burlington Central volleyball defeats Rock Falls

BURLINGTON – Playing without top outside hitter Lauren Wiltsie, the Burlington Central girls volleyball team persevered for a 25-17, 25-27, 25-13 victory over Rock Falls on Thursday in a Big Northern Conference crossover.

Wiltsie suffered a knee injury in practice this week.

“We thought it might have been an ACL,” Rockets coach Marv Leavitt said. “We got confirmed that it wasn’t. …. It doesn’t seem season-ending, which is wonderful for us. We’re going to take it a little easy right now with her, but we hope to have her back soon.”

BC (3-0) benefited from 12 Jenna Schudel kills and 36 digs from Allie O’Reilly.

St. Charles North 2, South Elgin 0 (25-13, 25-9): At St. Charles, North improved to 9-0 behind Taylor Krage (seven kills) and Alex Seavey (seven digs).

Waubonsie Valley 2, Geneva 0 (25-20, 25-21): At Geneva, Kelsey Wicinski (27 digs) and Maddie Courter (six blocks) kept 3-1 Geneva close.

Kaneland 2, Aurora Central Catholic 0 (25-13, 25-18): At Maple Park, Kaneland moved to 4-3 behind six kills apiece from Ellie Dunn and Jenny Lubic. Lubic added 17 assists. ACC fell to 1-6.

BOYS GOLF

DeKalb 158, Kaneland 169: At Kishwaukee Country Club in DeKalb, Matt Yonkovich and Brody Kuhar both carded 40s for Kaneland. Jeremy Faletto was next with a 43.

BOYS SOCCER

DeKalb 1, Geneva 0: At Geneva, Geneva fell to 1-3 despite solid play from Joe Mozden in goal.

Burlington Central 6, Rockford Christian 2: At Burlington, Alan Camarena scored a goal and had an assist for BC (5-1).

Yorkville 1, Aurora Central Catholic 0: At Yorkville, Andy Czerak made seven saves for ACC.

GIRLS TENNIS

St. Charles East 5, West Aurora 2: At Aurora, East’s senior-laden doubles lineup won all four matches. The No. 3 pairing of Jamie Youngberg and Emmy Russell was among the winners.

Rosary 4, Aurora Central Catholic 1: At Aurora, host Rosary (3-0) overcame a loss to ACC’s Alex Horton at No. 1 singles to win its SCC opener. The Royals swept doubles play, including a 7-4, 6-2 win from the No. 2 tandem of Alexis Thomas and Sydney Zaragoza.
