Roskam: 'We must build a 21st Century economy'

U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Wheaton, released the following statement on the August unemployment report:

“Today’s jobs report is another disappointment. The labor force participation rate is now the lowest it has been in over three decades because even more Americans have simply given up looking for work in our abysmal economy. Month after month, the jobs report paints the picture of increased uncertainty, stifled growth and the American economy falling behind. The president’s health care law is casting a long shadow on potential growth – businesses are hesitant to hire due to the known and unknown costs of the law, and more people are facing only part-time employment thanks to Obamacare.

“In the House, we are working to end the uncertainty and build an American economy that can compete globally and create jobs here at home. We are working to protect Americans from the worst parts of the health care law until we can repeal it and replace it with a patient-centered cost effective system. By overhauling our tax code, we will make it simpler and fairer for individuals and boost American businesses’ competitiveness. We are working to lift the burden of debt that threatens our long-term growth and reinforce that it’s American innovation that drives economic growth, not big government. We must build a 21st Century economy so that our nation and our people can thrive once again.”
