St. Charles library, center for the arts to host GrassRoots Literary Showcase

Charlie’s Center for the Arts and the St. Charles Public Library will present the GrassRoots Literary Showcase on Sept. 14.

ST. CHARLES  – Charlie’s Center for the Arts and the St. Charles Public Library will present the GrassRoots Literary Showcase, a one-night-only event featuring readings from Chicago-area poets. The free event is open to the public and will take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 14 at the First Street Plaza in downtown St. Charles.

The three poets who will do readings include Jeremy Mercado, Corey Dillard and J.W. Basilo, who is headlining the event.

Basilo is a National and World Poetry Slam finalist; a PushCart Prize nominee; the executive director of Chicago Slam Works; one-half of the poetry and comedy duo Beard Fight (with Dan Sully); and an artist in residence at Real Talk Avenue.

His work has appeared on NPR, CBS, WGN, in numerous literary journals and in hundreds of theaters, dive bars, prisons, schools and comedy clubs.

This event will be hosted by St. Charles poet Russ Devereaux.

Those interested in attending should bring a chair.
