To the Editor:
While traveling down Randall Road on a recent Friday, there was a person with a sign that said “Puppy Sale” near a chain pet store.
Please, before you buy a dog from a pet store, ask where the puppy came from, where are the parents and what is the medical history.
Make sure that the store does not obtain dogs from puppy mills, which are horrific places. Pet stores that receive their dogs from puppy mills need to be shut down.
Go online and research the breed of dog you are interested in; there are many reputable breeders. Go to the breed club’s website to find those breeders who have the dogs’ best interest – and the future of the breed – as their highest priorities.
Many breeds have rescue groups, which are a great place to find the breed you want and to help a dog. Better yet, visit a local shelter or rescue group and save a dog because – in the end – it will end up saving you.
Please work to shut down puppy mills and those stores that support them. Thank you.
