Teacher out of hospital after classroom injury

MAPLE PARK – A Fox Valley Career Center teacher who was injured Tuesday during a classroom activity has been discharged from Loyola University Medical Center, a hospital official confirmed Wednesday.

Clay Hansen, an automotive technology instructor at the school, suffered burns in an accident Tuesday and was taken from the school via helicopter to the hospital. The incident happened at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday at the career center at Kaneland High School, 47W326 Keslinger Road, Maple Park.

The career center is not exclusive to Kaneland students and includes students from throughout the area. Kaneland School District 302 Superintendent Jeff Schuler said no students were injured.

Schuler described it as an accident in one of the school’s lab classes. Students were present at the time, but Schuler said only the teacher was hurt.
