Gresey: Top Journalist award recognizes partnership
I received an exciting email late last month from Kari Miller, director of marketing and public relations for the Batavia Park District.
Kari wanted to let me know that the park district’s nomination of the Kane County Chronicle had won a Top Journalist award from the Illinois Association of Park Districts.
Reporter Eric Schelkopf and I were named as part of the award. Kari shared with me what was written as part of the nomination form.
“Over the years, the Kane County Chronicle has proven to be a major asset to the Batavia Park District,” the form states. “With Eric Schelkopf’s fair reporting and unbiased viewpoints, the district can count on him to get accurate, timely information to the public.
“In addition to sponsoring district events and reporting on a wide range of topics, the Chronicle also provides space twice a month for a district column. ... The district is incredibly grateful to the Chronicle for their support and continued coverage and hopes to have the ability to acknowledge them for their dedication to the parks and recreation initiative.”
Thanks to Kari and the rest of the Batavia Park District staff for nominating the Chronicle for the IAPD honor.
Our team is looking forward to the awards gala on Sept. 27 at the Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling.

The second episode of the BATV show “Viewpoint” is now available for viewing at http://mybatv.com/show/viewpoint. The topic of the show was “Pressures Teens Face.”
Guests were Batavia High School Assistant Principal Erin Reid, Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez, Coroner Rob Russell, Kane County Chronicle “Tales From the Motherhood” columnist Jennifer DuBose and Hearts of Hope founder and director Lea Minalga. I moderated the discussion.
Those with ideas for a future episode of “Viewpoint” can contact me using the information at the end of this column.
