Prep roundup: North girls golf tops Neuqua
NAPERVILLE – The St. Charles North girls golf team kept its hot stretch going Wednesday, defeating Neuqua Valley, 162-177, at Naperbrook Golf Course.
On Monday, the North Stars set what is believed to be a program record with a team score of 156.
“We’ve had some good rounds,” North coach Chris Patrick said. “We’re just waiting for one of those days where all four play their best round, which would be really impressive. We’re capable of a real low score if that happens.”
North was paced by Carly Hudon, who shot a 2-over-par 38.
“I don’t think she had played this course before and it has several holes that have some water on the landing area on tee shots,” Patrick said. “She’s got a powerful swing, and she did not just hit driver off every tee. She managed the course real well, hitting hybrids off the tee and putting herself in good position to approach the greens.”
Gianna Furrie (40), Kate Lillie (42) and Jessica Grill (42) also scored for North.
Naperville Central 180, St. Charles East 196: at Pottawatomie in St. Charles, East’s Darby Crane shot a 45 and Kacie Gaffney added a 47 but Naperville Central won the nonconference meet.
Kaneland 154, Wheaton Academy 156: At Pheasant Run in St. Charles, Kaneland nipped host Wheaton Academy as Matt Yonkovich led the Knights with a 1-over-par 36. Zack Spear, of Wheaton Academy, also shot 36.
Stephen Cannell (38), Brody Kuhar (39) and Jesse Denton (41) also scored for the Knights, while Grant Gosden shot a 37 for the Warriors.
St. Francis 161, Montini 179: At Cantigny in Wheaton, Jake Lane shot a 39 for St. Francis, while John Stolte, Dan Zurawski and Sean Doherty all shot rounds of 40 for the Spartans.
St. Francis 2, IC Catholic Prep 0 (25-18, 25-15): At Elmhurst, Natalie Murison had 12 service points and 11 assists and Molly Haggerty blasted 13 kills in the Suburban Christian Conference opener for St. Francis (7-1, 1-0).
