Man charged with sexual assault of teen

ST. CHARLES – A 19-year-old man who lives near Hampshire has been charged by St. Charles police with criminal sexual assault of a teenager.

Jacob A. Mayes, of the 48W500 block of Whispering Oak Drive near Hampshire, was charged Sept. 3 with criminal sexual abuse of a victim 13 to 17 years old. He posted $150 bail and was released.

A court hearing is set for Oct. 10. The assault occurred in January.

“It’s been under investigation since January,” St. Charles police public information officer Lisa Blackwell said. “The department had been waiting for charges to be approved by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.”
