In Focus: Pause in play

It’s been rivalry time around the Tri-Cities area for the past week or so, with Geneva taking on Batavia and St. Charles East taking on St. Charles North in football, volleyball and tennis.

Last Friday night, I had a front row seat as the Batavia Bulldogs beat Geneva in football.

And on Tuesday, I watched a raucous volleyball game between East and North.

The crowds were electric, and the student sections were overflowing.

I have to admit, I love a good rivalry.

Amid all the chaos Tuesday, in the final game of a three-game match, the play got so wild that St. Charles East player Megan Schildmeyer lost her shoe and played some great volleyball with one foot protected only by her sock.
