Kane County Clerk Cunningham to be honored

The Aurora Township Republican Central Committee will honor Kane County Clerk, John A. "Jack" Cunningham at the 23rd annual Ribfest soiree on Thursday, Sept. 19.

Sworn into office at the age of 25, he is still the youngest-elected Aurora city commissioner (now called alderman) in the city’s history. A Republican precinct committeeman for 40 years, Cunningham has served as Kane County Clerk for three terms.

He worked his way through college, earning a BA in political science from Chicago State, an MA in business and public administration from Governor’s State and Jurisprudence Doctorates from both Northern Illinois University and Lewis College of Law.

Cunningham served as the president for the National Association of County Recorders, Elected Officials and Clerks from 2010 to 2011, was the director of the Northern Illinois University Alumni Association, and has given his time to a variety of charitable boards, including the Elgin Visiting Nurses association.

When asked about his major accomplishments as County Clerk, Jack responded:

• Acquiring $3.7 million in federal HAVA grants (Help Americans Vote Act) to modernize Kane County voting equipment.

• Receiving the highest approval rating of any county office in the in the Kane County Strategic Plan.

• Providing easy access to the cerk’s office including voter registration via the “Votemobile.”

• Consistently coming in at the lowest per-capita budget of all collar county Clerks ($4.61 per person in 2013).
