BURLINGTON – Burlington Central girls volleyball coach Marv Leavitt flirted with superlatives after Wednesday’s 25-7, 25-19 sweep of visiting Big Northern Conference East rival Harvard.

“A real strong effort in the first game,” Leavitt said. “Probably one of our most complete games in terms of offense and defense and everything clicking.”

Makenna Jensen starred up front for Central (8-3, 3-0 BNC East), collecting 10 kills and four blocks. Allie O’Reilly had 18 digs, Maddy Barry dished eight assists and Jenna Schudel smacked six kills.

BC recovered from a 12-7 deficit in the second game, outscoring the Hornets, 18-7, down the stretch.

“We’re a really strong passing team, and our passing was a little inconsistent at the beginning of the game,” Leavitt said. “Harvard picked up their game in the second game. We had to play from behind but eventually took over.”

Wheaton Classic: At Wheaton, St. Charles North swept Plainfield Central, 25-20, 25-19, and Hinsdale Central, 25-13, 25-15, in pool play to remain unbeaten and advance to Saturday’s Gold Division matches.

North (13-0) benefited from a balanced attack sparked by Taylor Krage (14 kills) and Claire Anderson (12). Taryn DalDegan had 22 assists, while Sydney Wohlert contributed 21.

Chicago Christian 2, Aurora Central Catholic 1 (25-23, 25-27, 25-13): At Aurora, ACC fell to 0-3 in the Suburban Christian Conference despite strong net play from middles Natalie Droeske (nine blocks) and Maddie Trnka (seven).

“Taking a team of that caliber to three games was pretty awesome,” Chargers coach Jeanne Czipri said. “In the third game, they cleaned up their game and kind of forced us to make some errors.”

Lauren San Diego added 18 assists for ACC.

St. Francis 2, Marian Central 0 (25-13, 25-15): At Wheaton, St. Francis earned the sweep to improve to 14-1 (3-0 SCC).

BOYS SOCCER

St. Charles East 7, Elgin 0: At St. Charles, East (7-0-1, 2-0 Upstate Eight Conference River Division) extended its season-opening unbeaten streak with its third successive victory by at least four goals.

Daniel DiLeonardi scored four goals for the Saints and Mike Novotny had the shutout in net.

GIRLS TENNIS
