Sugar Grove man charged in Aurora shooting

Published: Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

A Sugar Grove man has been charged after police received to a call of shots fired Tuesday night at a home in Aurora.

Gabriel M. Carpenter, 27, of the 0-100 block of Heaton Court, Sugar Grove, was charged with one felony count of not having a Firearm Owner Identification card.

At 10:54 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a home in the 400 block of Blackhawk Street in Aurora to a report of shots fired, Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.

He said the incident stemmed from an apparent fight at the home. No one was injured in the shooting.

“At some point during the fight, Carpenter apparently produced a handgun, which discharged during the scuffle,” Ferrelli said.

Police recovered a gun from a neighboring yard, and a gun magazine and holster also were found in Carpenter’s vehicle. Police also found a spent shell casing in the street.

Both Carpenter and a 26-year-old Oklahoma woman suffered injuries in the fight, but refused medical attention. A 42-year-old man suffered a minor scratch wound, but the wound did not appear to be consistent with a gunshot, police said.

Carpenter also was wanted on a warrant out of Kendall County for criminal trespass to land.
