WEST CHICAGO – The St. Francis girls volleyball team steamrolled Wheaton Academy on Thursday in a Suburban Christian Conference crossover, 25-20, 25-9.
“Things were just pretty smooth,” said St. Francis coach Peg Kopec, whose team improved to 16-1 overall. “Our serving was pretty aggressive, I thought.”
Molly Haggerty finished with 11 kills, Kamryn Malloy had eight kills and Sam Dubiel supplied 16 digs for the Spartans, who, with the win, claimed the “Wheaton Cup.”
The Warriors were led by 14 assists from Sarah McClain.
Kaneland 2, Rochelle 0 (25-20, 25-18): At Maple Park, Jenny Lubic had 22 assists and Ellie Dunn had 12 kills, five digs and four service points as Kaneland (9-7, 3-1) prevailed in Northern Illinois Big 12 East action.
Kaneland coach Kerri McCastland said she was able to work the whole team into the match, which made for some chemistry challenges on the fly.
“I think it was great to watch them overcome them, to allow people to be patient with each other on the floor and still get the job done, which continues to evoke trust and confidence,” McCastland said.
Kaneland 0, Yorkville 0: At Maple Park, the Knights (4-4-3, 1-1-1 Northern Illinois Big 12 East) and Foxes played to a scoreless draw.
St. Charles North 103.5, Metea Valley 82.5: At St. Charles, North won the UEC match, including a winning time (1:53.84) in the 200-yard medley relay from Serena Allendorfer, Kristen Kowaleski, Loriel Hutchinson and Grace Samuelson.
Samuelson also won the 200 freestyle in 2:03.35 in addition to being on two other victorious relays.
St. Charles East 113, Waubonsie Valley 67: At St. Charles, East’s Stephanie Garvin won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.88 and was on the Saints’ winning 400 freestyle relay (3:43.95) with Jordan Morling, Lauren McCormack and Lucy Johnson.
Kaneland 4, LaSalle-Peru 1: At Maple Park, Kaneland won on senior day, including a No. 3 doubles triumph for the Knights’ Stephanie Zwick and Kaylee Shoaff in straight sets.
