ELBURN – As far as Judy Kaenel is concerned, the sky’s the limit for the 27th annual DuKane ABATE Toy and Food Run.
“We want to get [the donations] as high to the sky as we can,” said Kaenel, president of the DuKane Chapter of ABATE of Illinois. “You can pull a truck up and unload.”
Held rain or shine Sunday, the toy and food run benefits multiple charities, including Mutual Ground, HELPS Ministry, Aurora Soup Kitchen and Fox Valley Christian Action.
So far, donations include cases of gum and candy for Christmas stockings and pallets of canned food, Kaenel said.
“We’re having these wonderful people step up,” she said.
Event registration will be at seven suburban locations, including Fox River Harley-Davidson in St. Charles, the Batavia VFW in Batavia and Knuckleheads Tavern in Elburn.
Registration is $10 and supports ABATE’s mission to educate people about motorcycle safety.
ABATE stands for A Brotherhood Aimed Toward Education. The DuKane chapter covers Kane and DuPage counties.
Although the event is open to everyone – festivities will be at the Batavia VFW until 6 p.m. – Kaenel said only motorcyclists can participate in the parade from Elburn to Batavia.
The parade is set to leave Knuckleheads Tavern at 12:30 p.m. for the Batavia VFW.
The route includes Route 47, Main Street Road, Wilson Street and Route 25, Kaenel said. She noted the Elburn Police Department, Kane County Sheriff’s Office, Batavia Police Department and Kane County Office of Emergency Management will provide a full escort.
“The thing is, we’d love to see people lined up on the road and cheering the motorcycles on,” Kaenel said.
