GENEVA TOWNSHIP – Keslinger Road is closed between Peck Road and Lea Drive because of a gas main break, officials said.
A spokesman for Nicor said a third party struck the gas line and crews are responding to it.
Geneva Police Cmdr. Eric Passarelli said the actual gas leak is in Kane County's jurisdiction west of Lea Drive.
"The county has Keslinger blocked on the west side, and we have it blocked at Keslinger and Peck. Nicor is advising that it will take two hours to repair," Passarelli said.
Geneva School District 304 officials report that students and staff are safe, but buses may be delayed up to 10 minutes this afternoon due to the closing of Keslinger Road near the district’s transportation facility.
Many buses will be rerouted via Fabyan Parkway, which could cause the delay. School officials said drivers are being called in early to help mitigate the delays.
Passarelli said the city requested help from volunteers with Geneva Emergency Management Agency to take over traffic control so officers can get back to their normal beats.
