ST. CHARLES – The St. Charles East boys soccer team stormed back from a 2-0 halftime deficit to defeat Larkin, 4-2, on Tuesday in Upstate Eight Conference River play.
Tyler Robbins scored the go-ahead goal with 1:36 to play and Evan DiLeonardi added a late insurance goal for his second score of the half, providing the final margin. Taylor Ortiz scored the Saints’ first goal to trigger the comeback.
The win kept East (15-0-4, 4-0-1 UEC River) unbeaten and in first place ahead of Saturday’s conference finale against St. Charles North.
East coach Paul Jennison said the Saints balanced playing with great emotion and discipline in the second half.
“It was definitely great to turn that around in the second half,” Jennison said.
Geneva 3, Elgin 0: At Elgin, Beck Nebergall scored twice, including on a penalty kick, to snap a scoreless tie at intermission. Joe Mozden made nine saves to earn the shutout for Geneva (7-8, 2-4 UEC River).
Kaneland 3, Morris 2: At Morris, freshman Angel Escontrias scored two goals and Arsim Azemi had a goal and an assist to lift Kaneland (6-5-3, 3-2-2 Northern Illinois Big 12 East).
Class 3A Hinsdale South Regional: At Bluffs Golf Course in Lockport, Marmion’s Luke Hoss fired a 6-over-par 78 to advance to Monday’s Naperville Central Sectional as an individual. The Cadets finished eighth among 10 teams with a 320, 15 shots behind the top three cutoff.
Class 2A St. Rita Regional: At Meadows Golf Club in Blue Island, St. Francis shot 299 to finish second and advance to Monday’s Nazareth Academy Sectional as a team. John Stolte’s 71 paced the Spartans.
Class 1A Westminster Christian Regional: At Golf Club of Illinois in Algonquin, freshman Brett Seward’s 79 sparked Aurora Christian (338) to a second-place finish and a team berth in Monday’s Byron Sectional.
St. Charles North 2, Larkin 0 (25-21, 25-21): At Elgin, North (18-5, 4-1) earned the UEC River behind Alex Seavey’s 12 digs and 11 assists apiece from Sydney Wohlert and Taryn Dal Degan.
St. Charles East 2, Elgin 0 (25-4, 25-10): At Elgin, East cruised to extend its winning streak to five and improve to 17-4 (3-1 UEC River).
Geneva 2, Streamwood 0 (25-13, 25-13): At Geneva, Ally Barrett’s seven blocks and six kills sparked the Vikings (17-5, 3-1 UEC River).
Burlington Central 2, Rockford Christian 0 (25-12, 25-10): At Burlington, Makenna Jensen (11 kills) and Allie O’Reilly (18 digs) boosted BC (18-7, 7-0 Big Northern Conference East).
Kaneland 7, Ottawa 0: At Maple Park, Kaneland’s No. 4 doubles pairing of Jessica Poust and Anna Wendling was among the Knights’ winners.
IMSA 4, Rosary 1: At Aurora, Rosary fell despite a win at No. 1 doubles from Maddie Deufel and Sydney Zaragoza.
