Roskam: We need a constructive dialogue

Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam, R-Wheaton, released the following statement in advance of this afternoon’s White House meeting with House Republican Leaders:

“After 10 days of stalemate that follows over two years of the president not substantively engaging a divided Congress, later this afternoon the president will finally sit down with House Republicans and engage in what I hope will be a constructive dialogue. Those of us going to the White House bring with us a chance for a real negotiation – offering a temporary increase in the debt ceiling and a discussion on how to find common ground on a budget agreement that re-opens the government and tackles some of the serious problems facing our nation. We have an opportunity to address our long-term debt and deficits, provide fairness for all Americans under the health care law and by doing so create an economic environment that allows for real growth and opportunity.”
