GENEVA – Fabyan Elementary School’s physical education teacher Mike Graham thought his young students should learn bowling – a lifetime activity.
But rather than take students to a bowling alley, he applied for – and got – a $1,200 grant from The Bowling Foundation, where students can learn about the sport in-house.
The grant paid for six inside lanes, balls and pins. Although it originated at Fabyan, the portable equipment will circulate at all Geneva School District 304 elementary schools, officials said.
The pins are plastic and the balls are rubberized weighing about three pounds with three sets of finger holes to accommodate larger and smaller hands.
As the students learn, they roll the balls down carpeted lanes, Graham said.
