Prep Roundup: St. Charles East's Barry commits to Illinois State football

ST. CHARLES – St. Charles East senior Brannon Barry verbally committed to play college football at Illinois State on Monday.

Barry chose ISU over another Missouri Valley Football Conference program, Western Illinois, which also had offered a scholarship.

The 6-foot-5 Barry is a two-way standout for East at receiver and safety. He said the Redbirds project him to play receiver.

Barry is the leading receiver this year for the Saints with 41 receptions for 644 receiving yards.

He has five touchdown receptions and a rushing touchdown.

Barry and the Saints (6-3) will visit Stevenson on Saturday in an IHSA Class 8A first-round playoff game.

Wheaton Academy girls v’ball eliminated

ELMHURST – The Wheaton Academy girls volleyball team suffered a season-ending loss in a Class 3A Timothy Christian Regional quarterfinal Monday, as the host Trojans earned a 25-21, 25-19 sweep.  

Timothy Christian advanced to face defending 3A state champion St. Francis in a semifinal at 6 p.m. today.
