BATAVIA – Donetta McGrath and Jamie Langford not only live next to each other, they also share a passion for antiques.

In September, they took that shared passion and opened 715 Vintage, which features a wide array of vintage items, including furniture, lighting, clothing and household items. The store is located at 715 Main St., Batavia.

“We encourage people to walk around the store and ask questions,” McGrath said.

McGrath and Langford previously sold their treasures in Carter’s Cottage Interiors at DeKalb and Past and Present Shoppes in North Aurora, but decided they wanted their own shop to give themselves more space. 715 Vintage features 10 different vendors, including McGrath and Langford.

“It’s like little mini shops,” Langford said. “A lot of them have specialties.”

True to its name, 715 Vintage doesn’t sell anything less than 30 years old, and many of the store’s items are much older. Take for example the Victorian dress in Langford’s space that dates to the late 1800s.

The store also sells many eclectic items, such as the 1940s-era Elmer the Doughboy ceramic head.

“It grows hair,” Langford said. “This was before there were Chia Pets. I like fun things.”

In McGrath’s space in the store, one can find such items as a porch post estimated to be between 75 and 100 years old, as well as industrial items such as an old tool box.

“I like repurposing,” McGrath said. “I like giving people ideas on how to use a wire basket in a different way.”

And customers don’t have to spend a lot of money to acquire their treasures.

“We wanted to have a place that’s affordable, that young people might be drawn to,” McGrath said.

715 Vintage will have a holiday open house Nov. 9 and 10. The store is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. 715 Vintage is closed Mondays. For information, call 630-777-2727.
