Prep roundup: Rockets, Warriors to meet in sectional finals

BURLINGTON – Alan Camarena and AJ Gouriotis scored in the final 10:29 Tuesday, boosting the host Burlington Central boys soccer team to a 2-0 victory in 2A sectional semifinal against Freeport.

BC (22-2) advanced to Friday’s regional final against Wheaton Academy, a 7-0 winner against Belvidere in the night’s second semifinal.

“We started out very flat,” Central coach Mike Gecan said. “We weren’t really in our rhythm off the bat. It kind of took awhile. We got better and better as the match went on.”

Matt O’Connor assisted Camarena’s goal after a late substitution helped the Rockets open up their style. Jose Uribe had the help on Gouriotis’ goal, which came with 2:42 to play.

The Warriors (20-3-1) defeated BC in a Geneva summer tournament match.

“We know what to expect. We got to watch them tonight after our game, so we know we have to compete,” Gecan said. “They’re a good team. We’re a good team. I’m sure you’re going to see a very, very good game.”
